Joint experimental and theoretical efforts of researchers from the UD Center for Spintronics and Biodetection have demonstrated for the first time that pure spin currents can be generated in microwave driven magnetic tunnel junctions without any applied voltage. Neutrino research in Antarctica

The UD Astroparticle Physics team led by Prof. Gaisser is part of an international collaboration to build IceCube Neutrino Observatory in a cubic kilometer of the Antarctic Ice. When completed in 2011, it will open super-sensitive new eyes into neutrinos as the high-energy messengers from the universe, formed during such cataclysmic cosmic events as exploding stars and colliding galaxies.Read More

Introduction to Nanophysics course to be offered for the first time at UD

August 18, 2009 - A new course Introduction to Nanophysics (PHYS 824) will be offered for the first time at the University of Delaware in the Fall 2009 semester. The course will provide a hands-on experience for graduate students in sciences (physics, chemistry) and engineering (electrical, chemical, materials), as well as advanced undergraduates, to analyze electronic structure and transport properties of basic classes of nanostructures explored at current research frontiers.

Prof. Bilal Tanatar

Personal Website

After graduating from the University of Delaware in 1987, Prof. Tanatar worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and he is currently a faculty member at Bilkent University in Turkey. He is the author of more than 150 papers in theoretical condensed matter physics, as well as of the so-called Tanatar-Ceperley exchange-correlation functional, often used in density functional theory calculations.
