NASA is greatly interested in the area of “space weather”, i.e. how the surroundings of the Earth are affected by disturbances. The disturbances come either from the Sun in the form of electromagnetic waves and energetic particles, or from the Earth’s magnetic environment. In this talk I provide an overview of several basic and applied research activities that are currently active at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
